Where's Andy? At the GroupBy Conference!
Well, after a bit of a hiatus, I'm back with another edition of "Where's Andy?" The simple answer to that question is the same place as the rest of you—at home, riding out the pandemic. But that hasn't stopped the SQL community from speaking and presenting virtually!
GroupBy.org is a free online conference run by the community, for the community. Sessions are selected via community voting.
I've wanted to submit for and present at this conference for years but always had a conflict. This time around, I was available and submitted several sessions to both the Americas and European GroupBy conferences. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic started causing the cancellation of events across the world, and submissions by other speakers poured in. Frankly, I figured I no longer had a chance of being selected.
Then, halfway through the week, @GroupByConf shared intermediate voting results showing that I was among the top nominees for the European GroupBy conference. Wow! In the end, I was one of the top 5 selected!
Join Me on May 12
On Tuesday, May 12th at 16:00 UTC (11:00am EDT), I am honored to present "Lets Dive Into SQL Server I/O To Improve T-SQL Performance" (linked session abstract is from a prior SQLSaturday). I developed this session in the summer of 2019 and it has had a fantastic run since.
This session is targeted at those who write T-SQL, to give them a stronger understanding of how SQL Server's storage engine manipulates data to fulfill T-SQL queries. It's been very well received everywhere I've presented it, and I hope you will join me for this session during the GroupBy virtual conference!
