DOC xPress:
SQL Metadata & Database Documentation Tool

Accurately documenting databases is challenging

One of the biggest obstacles in managing a database environment is continuously maintaining accurate, up-to-date documentation. Current documentation, including a clear understanding of the data's origin, is critical to ensure adherence to business rules.

Challenges data teams face in maintaining documentation include:

  • Significant time investment in maintaining up-to-date documentation, particularly in constantly changing environments

  • Difficulties tracking data lineage, a crucial step in ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CASL, and others

  • Frustrations with analyzing metadata to track how data has changed over time—and who has touched the data

Gain control of your data environment with powerful tools for documenting and analyzing data sources including SQL Server, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, Excel, Salesforce, Azure Synapse Analytics (formerly Azure SQL Data Warehouse), Tableau, and many more.

With DOC xPress, you can automatically document databases and track data lineage, which helps you comply with business rules and data privacy regulations.

Can I view a sample document?

You can! Click here to see a sample document.

To view the contents of the .chm example documentation, you will need to right click the file and 'unblock' the file and apply the change. The Windows operating
system automatically ‘blocks’ foreign files of the .chm filetype, which is why you must unblock the file before viewing! The HTML Frameset documentation is built to open in a web browser.
The table ‘dbo.Dim_Club’ table on the ‘HigherEdDW’ database shows a great example of documentation, including dependencies, Data Lineage and Data Dictionary entries. The Data Dictionary entries are custom added values into the
documentation to track the Business Owner, Description and GDPR Compliance.
