Explore how SentryOne Monitor helps you improve SQL Server performance

Use Health view to track high-impact events

SentryOne Monitor watches your database targets for any events that could degrade your SQL Server performance and displays those events in the Health view. You can see events by severity, use the Tag view to see impacted resources, and drill down into specific events for more details—putting you in control of your database performance.

View historical database performance

The Performance Analysis Dashboard shows your overall SQL Server performance over a specified period of time:

  • SQL Server activity, waits, and memory

  • Windows OS network utilization, CPU usage, and system memory

You can use the pre-built dashboard or create custom dashboards to collect specific metrics you need to track.

Analyze high-impact SQL queries

Easily identify SQL queries that are degrading your SQL Server performance with the Top SQL view. You can view query plan details and use the trace event to view each query execution. The query history gives you details including the average duration, average CPU used, and average number of reads and writes.

SentryOne Monitor FAQ

How many database targets can I monitor with SentryOne Monitor?

The preview release of SentryOne Monitor will let you monitor up to ten database targets. Support for more targets will be available in a future release.

Where can my database targets be located

SentryOne Monitor can monitor database targets on your local network or on virtual machines in AWS and Azure. You can also monitor databases on Azure SQL Database Managed Instance.

What do I need to get up and running?

You’ll need to install the SentryOne client application on a system with access to your database monitoring targets. The SentryOne client includes a collection service and a local SQL Server Express database that enable secure data collection from databases that are not exposed to the Internet.

After you install the SentryOne client and configure your targets, you’ll be able to do all of your monitoring from any web browser with our Universal Client portal at

What do I need to set up in the client application?

In the client application, you'll need to do a few setup tasks to get everything ready to go:

  • Add database targets—do this first so that you can start collecting data.

  • Set up conditions and alerts—this is where you configure email notifications and automated responses to events detected by the monitoring system. If you don’t set these, you’ll still see events on the Health page of the Universal Client portal.

  • Adjust settings for data collection and monitoring—most users will be fine with the default values, but there’s a lot of flexibility here if you need it.

How do I monitor my databases from the Universal Client portal once I have everything configured

At, you'll see three key monitoring views: Health, Dashboard, and Top SQL.

Use the Health view to see which database targets have events detectedYou can click on an event to see more details and information.

The built-in Performance Analysis Dashboard lets you view performance data over time. It shows the most relevant metrics that our SQL Server experts recommend, including SQL Server activity, waits, and memory as well as Windows OS resource utilization. You can also create your own dashboards with customized views

The Top SQL view lets you see details of specific SQL queries and explore the query plans and execution histories for those queries. Top SQL helps you identify statements and tables that might benefit from tuning.

What if I find something that’s not working?

You can send feedback to the SentryOne team from right in the portal. Use the smiley face icon in the upper-right corner to open up a feedback link.

What if I need help?

Our Support team is happy to help. Please contact them if you get stuck and need assistance.

What happens when my 30-day trial expires?

Before the trial expires, you’ll receive an email inviting you to upgrade to a paid subscription. If you haven’t upgraded, SentryOne will stop collecting monitoring data at the end of the trial but will retain the data you have already collected.
